The name "Fireslinger Studios" originally came from a high school project done by now-lead developer Travis Vroman. The idea was initially to develop a tech demo under the name using the now-defunct Torque Game Engine, but then began to evolve into something more. A few tech demos were developed, but nothing really warrented a full release as none of these projects were fully-developed ideas of an end product.

Long story short, life happened and Travis had to walk away from Fireslinger Studios sometime in 2008, eventually resurrecting the name and brand in 2025.

Since 2008, the games market has shifted many times, with independent game studios releasing more and more games every year. Triple-A has lost some of its luster, with various examples of indie titles going viral and becoming wildly successful both critically and financially.

Skipping forward to 2018, Travis decided to give creating a YouTube channel a shot and began uploading content that year. While trying many things on the channel, the constant grind eventually began to pay off sometime in 2019 when the channel gained a tiny bit of traction.

In 2021, the Kohi Game Engine project was officially launched.

Kohi's goals were relatively straightforward - to show a way of building a game engine completely from scratch using C and Vulkan As is said consisitently, it's just one way to build a game engine, not the only way, and not even always the right way (experimentation and deep dives into why this might be are common in the series).

Fast-forward once again to 2025, and the series has become at least a little popular, and the point of beginning to develop an actual game with Kohi has been reached.

At this point, it has become clear that minimally the game needs to have some sort of brand it belongs to. Possibly the engine, too. Fireslinger Studios is that brand.
